Ramon Polanco wanted to get married, but there was one hitch — someone using his identity had already exchanged vows with three women over a 12-year span.
Now, after more than a year of jumping through hoops with the City Clerk’s Office, a judge has allowed the 77-year-old to walk the aisle — thanks, in part, to testimony from his actual former wife.
Polanco applied for a marriage license on Oct. 14, 2016, but was turned down when records showed he had already tied the knot in 1978, 1982 and 1990.
Polanco was stunned. He had never even heard of his supposed brides, despite the marriage applications listing his name, birth date and parents’ names.
“The evidence supports a finding that the 1978, 1982 and 1990 marriage licenses were obtained by someone pretending to be [Polanco] and using his birth certificate,” Administrative Law Judge Joycelyn McGeachy-Kuls wrote in a Nov. 1 decision recommending the city “expeditiously” allow him to marry his sweetheart.
